SOUTHAVEN — The funeral service for W. Dean Smith, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 27 with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, all at Hernando Funeral Home. Dean died Jan. 24 at LifePoint Village. He graduated from Saltillo High School and Memphis State University where he was a standout pitcher and played basketball. He was an Army veteran and retired from Riverwood International after 40 years as plant manager. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Miles Smith; mother, Lillie Bell Smith; six brothers and one sister. He leaves his wife of 47 years, Grace Smith; two sons, Miles R. Smith, Jeff Smith (Karen); daughter, Caroline Browder (Brian); seven grandchildren, Randy and Alex Smith, Abbie and Ashley Browder, Camille, Natalie and Sarah Smith; two sisters, Laverne Taylor and Ruby Nell Wright. Any memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude's Children research Hospital.
