OLIVE BRANCH — The arrangements for Henry “Hank” Porter Jr. are in care of Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Porter was born May 24, 1947 in Waterloo, Iowa and died July 18 at his home. He was a Sgt. E5 in the Marine Corps serving as door gunner during three tours in Vietnam from 1966-1969. He was a sports reporter for the DeSoto County Tribune in Olive Branch. He leaves his wife of 33 years, Cheryl Porter of Olive Branch; one son, Hamilton Tyler Porter Sr. (Sonni Elaine) of Olive Branch; one daughter, Sgt. Ashley Brooke Porter of Camp Shelby; mother, Helen I. Porter of Horn Lake; one sister, Lillian K. Porter Skaggs (Johnny E.) of Horn Lake; and two grandchildren, A.J. Berkley and Hamilton Tyler Porter Jr. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry DeWitt Porter Sr. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
