OLIVE BRANCH — The funeral service for James S. “Pete” Huckaby Jr., 79, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with visitation starting at 10 a.m.. Huckaby died Dec. 2. Interment will be in Memphis Memory Gardens. Huckaby graduated in 1951 from Southside High School, served in the Army in Korea and retired from BellSouth. He was a marshal at the Cherokee Valley golf course in Olive Branch. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Catanzaro; father, James Stanley Huckaby; and sister, Martha Thomas. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Imogene M. Huckaby; daughters, Petra Sneed, Georgina Steele and Alice Napier; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles Huckaby, Roy Huckaby and Ronny Huckaby; and sister, Billye Summers. She leaves two daughters, Patricia Autry and Shirlene Printup; three sons, Edward T. Wilkinson Jr., Charles Clay Wilkinson and Mark R. Wilkinson; one brother, Bailey Whitten; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was a homemaker. She was born March 2, 1947 in Memphis to the late Esker and Bonnie Carpenter and was a member of Colonial Hills Church in Southaven. She leaves her husband of 25 years, John White Sr. of Horn Lake; two sons, Derrin Michael Scola of Southaven and John White of Horn Lake; two brothers, Kenneth Carpenter of Collierville, TN and Rod Carpenter of Smithfield, NC; one sister, Glenna Nall of Collierville; and five grandchildren, William Dalton, Kylee Devon, Kaitlynn Wright, Jason Isaacs, and Bryce William. Interment will be on Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.

She leaves her husband of 70 years, Rowland Crawford; three sons, James Ellis "Jim" Crawford of Horn Lake, John Mark Crawford of Walls and Joe Bryant Crawford of Lake Cormorant; one daughter, Joan Crawford Stoker of Memphis; one sister, Bernice Wilder of Fort Smith; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Marley and one sister, Charlotte Marley.

Granholm died Dec. 3 she was formerly of Ocean Springs and Biloxi and had lived in Olive Branch for the past three years. She worked as a bank teller in Biloxi for many years and most recently was a greeter at WalMart in Olive Branch. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fernand and Effie Gary; brother, Dalton Gary; and sister, Lona Reed. She leaves a son, Karl Granholm (Hannah) of Olive Branch; and a large extended family on the Gulf coast. Memorial contributions may be directed to charity of donor's choice.

HERNANDO — The funeral service for Jeffrey W. Schiela, 57, will be at 10 a.m. today at Eudora Presbyterian Church, 1836 Hwy. 301 S., in Lake Cormorant with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Hernando Funeral Home has charge. There will be no graveside service. Schiela died Dec. 4 at home after a long battle with cancer. He put himself through school, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He retired as the manager of facility engineering for the Delta division of Kroger after almost 20 years. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 and continued to work for five years while undergoing chemotherapy treatments. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and even taught himself to paint. He was a member of New Discovery Christian Church. He served on the board of directors of the Memphis Cancer Foundation’s Flying colors support group while he was a patient himself. He leaves his wife of 29 years , Charlene; an aunt, Ruth Smith of Stuart, Fla.; an uncle, Craig Jantsch of Liverpool, New York; sister-in-law, Lynette Graffft; three nieces, Cindy Melians, Carla Froome and Casey Gibbs, all of Seattle, Wash.; Susan Robinson of Memphis; Jennifer Waters of Gainesville, Fla.; countless other friends. MEMPHIS — The funeral service for Clarence Edward “Chuck” O’Connor will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church in Southaven. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Bradley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Midtown Memphis. O’Connor died Dec. 4. He was born in Washington, Ind. to Nellie Mae and Clarence Edward O’Connor on February 19, 1920. After serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he worked as an electrician at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 43 years. In retirement he became the expert fudge maker for The Candy Store, which he and his wife owned. They were married for 63 years and have four children: Chuck O’Connor (Jan) of Maryville, Tenn.; Judy Eison (Bob) and Christie Evans (Kenny) of Southaven and Janice Hall (Andy) of Warrenton, Va. He had 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He dedicated much of his personal time to Trinity Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He enjoyed gardening and always had a dog or two to keep him company. Memorials may be sent to a children’s charity of choice.

Interment will be in Blocker Cemetery. Rikard died Dec. 7 at his home. Born and raised in DeSoto County, Rikard was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as an MP; and he retired from BellSouth after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Longview Heights Baptist Church, and he was a charter member of the Fairhaven Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Brooksie Rikard; and his brother, EL Rikard. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Nellie Mae Rikard; his son, Sam Rikard (Paula) of Olive Branch; daughter, Betsy Nichols (Jerry) of Byhalia; sister, Bobbie Davidson; brother, Monty Rikard; four grandchildren, Stephen Rikard, Michael Rikard, Jonathan Nichols, and Jeffrey Nichols; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother.

She leaves two daughters, Pam Farrar of Memphis and Cindy Lusk of Lake Cormorant; one son, Richard Hadley of Leeds, Ala.; two brothers, Arnold Tidwell of Barefoot Bay, Fla. and Buddy Tidwell of Ackworth, Ga.; six grandchildren, Johnathan Hadley, Jason Farrar, Richard Lusk, Mallory Farrar, Katie Hadley, and Zachery Hadley; and five great grandchildren, Hannah Farrar, Mary Elizabeth Hadley, Catherine Hadley, Maxwell Farrar, and Virginia Hadley. HERNANDO — The memorial service for Sam O. Thurmond, 69, will be at 11 a.m. Thurs., Dec. 15 with visitation starting at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary of Hernando United Methodist Church. Another memorial service will be held in Winterville, Ga. at a later date. Thurmond died Dec. 10 at home from complications of a brain tumor. He was the oldest child of Sam Thurmond Sr. and Carol Cooper Thurmond. He graduated from Athens High School in Athens, Ga., attended the University of Ga. He then enlisted in the Navy. After completing his enlistment he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Panama City, Fla. where he completed his business degree. With the FAA, he had assignments in Panama Canal Zone, Gulfport and Chattanooga, Tenn. He retired to Memphis after 42 years of civil service. He was active in each location in the Methodist church, Scouts and youth and church league ball. He leaves his wife of 48 years, Glenda Meyer Thurmond; three children, Lisa Pettis (Ernie) of Ocean Springs; Greg of Memphis and Laurie of Norcross, Ga.; grandchildren, Ethan and Rosalie Pettis; two sisters of Rosewill, Ga., Linda Cooper (Nelson), Cathy; brother, Randall of Athens; two nephews, Adam and Zack Cooper.
