SOUTHAVEN - A gathering of friends for Glenn Powell, 72, part owner of Southern Logistics Group was Monday at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven with graveside services at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Powell was born Feb. 26, 1941 in Campbell, Mo. and died July 5 at Methodist Hospital-Memphis. He was a Navy veteran and member of the Church of Christ. He leaves his wife of 34 years, Nancy Mote Powell of Southaven; one son, Clay Powell of Olive Branch; two daughters, Kim Burkhead (Greg) of Arab, Ala. and Kay Poteet (Bill) of Bartlett, Tenn.; one brother, Jack Powell of Missouri; and three grandchildren, Brad, Hunter, and Casey. BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. — The funeral service for John Powell McHann, 83, formerly of Southaven, was Saturday at Newsom Funeral Home with interment in Needmore Cemetery in Tippo. McHann died July 3 after a long illness at Osceola Living center in Osceola, Ark. He was the son of Earnest and Nancy McHann of Tippo. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alive Jean McHann and two sisters Annett Bair and Betty Finka. He leaves his brother Jimmy McHann of Jackson; four children; William C. (Bill) McHann of Blytheville, Rita Baker of Southaven, Stacy Bullard (Ted) of Blytheville and John David Mchann (Carol) of Bridge City, Texas; five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in both the Air Force and Army while enlisted overseas. A member of the basketball team at Charleston High School from 1949-1950, he once played against the Harlem Globetrotters.

Jo Glisson
TUPELO — The funeral service for Jo Glisson, 77, was Monday at The Church of the Crossroads in Corinth with interment Forest Hill Memorial Park. Glisson was born aug. 17, 1935 and died July 5 in Memphis. She graduated from Farmington High school in Corinth. She was married to Johnny Glisson and they moved to Tupelo where together they raised their family. He preceded her in death October 15, 2003. They had three children, grandchildren and a great grandchild. She also had an extend family she “adopted” as her own. She was an active community worker. After her health failed she moved to Silvercreek Senior Living Community and was a member of The Church of the Crossroads in Corinth. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors in Tupelo had charge of the arrangements. Survivors include three children; Jan Glisson Avery (Jason) of Ozark, Missouri, Jackie Glisson (Jay Hester) of Memphis, Jerry Glisson (Wendy) of Olive Branch; four grandchildren, Betsy Barker (Phillip) of Olive Branch, Sarah PeConge (Joshua) of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Savannah and Meredith Avery both of Ozark, Missouri; one great-grandchild, Hannah Jo Barker of Olive Branch; four sisters, Joyce Pratt and Jane Austin both of Southaven, Jean Givens of Ripley and Sheila Tucker of Dumas; one brother, Charles Coln of Memphis. She also had two “adopted” children she called her own, Scott Truelove of Tupelo and Rick Vaughn who recently lost his life in an aviation accident.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Peggy Erwin of Horn Lake; children, Necha Freeman (Carl) of Nesbit, Julie Bryson (Jeff) of Southaven, Jay Erwin (Brandy) and Billy Erwin (Tonya), all of Horn Lake; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was born in Beatrice, Neb. where he grew up hunting and fishing. He worked for many years at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a union electrician and later worked as an electrician for the Marietta Corporation. Boler died July 14. He was retired printer from Allied Graphics, an Air Force veteran and a member of Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch. Boler’s loved music which led him to become an established and gifted musician. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Irene Boler; one son, Wendell Boler (Diane); one daughter, Doris Harlan (Kenny), all of Nesbit; one brother, Arlin Boler of Union; one sister, Ruth Goss of Decatur, Ala.; four grandchildren, Melissa Harlan, Jenny Lamb, John Boler, and James Boler; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Boler was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Elaine Boler; two brothers, and one sister.
